Employee Spotlight: Jacob Rose
There is always something happening in our warehouses. Keeping everything moving takes someone who can stay organized, communicate clearly, and keep up with the day-to-day hustle. At WCP Medford, Jacob is that person. As the Shipping and Receiving Manager, he helps keep things running smoothly behind the scenes and brings a lot to the team along the way. Get to know Jacob in this month’s Employee Spotlight!
Jacob’s WCP Story
Before coming to WCP, Jacob worked at Erickson Air-Crane, where he would regularly receive deliveries from WCP. That interaction is what first sparked his interest in the company. So when Jacob came across an open Receiving position, he applied. Jacob joined the company in 2021, starting as a backup Receiving Clerk in the Medford warehouse. He spent three years as the backup before taking on his current role as Shipping and Receiving Manager for WCP Medford, a role he has held for the past two years.
For those who do not know, our warehouse teams start early, and Jacob is no exception. His workday starts bright and early, arriving at 5 AM. He opens the building and gets to work loading two Medford trucks before unloading and organizing transfers from Portland and Kent. From there, he verifies that products are headed to the correct towns, distributes them to the appropriate staging areas, and receives and puts away the incoming product. And that is just the start. Because deliveries can arrive throughout the day, Jacob has to be ready to shift gears at a moment’s notice. Whether he is unloading a truck, making room for a 53-foot trailer, receiving and putting away product, pulling orders, or helping get drivers loaded and out on the road, no two days are quite the same.
More About Jacob
Born in California and raised in Southern Oregon, Jacob has always had a strong connection to the outdoors. During his interview, he said, “My passion for the outdoors stemmed from my grandparents. Since I was little, they would always take us camping, fishing, hunting or up in the woods driving around exploring new places to go camping or just to see the views of the valley.”
So when Jacob is not at work, you can usually find him outdoors, whether that be hiking, camping, rafting, or spending time at the lake with his two Australian Cattle Dogs, Luna and Malakai. “That’s how we get all the energy they have out.” He also mentioned that one of his favorite spots to go rafting is a little stretch from Gold Hill to Rogue River, because it is calm, relaxing, and close to where he lives. Jacob’s love for the outdoors is also matched by his love for adventure, and this year brought an especially exciting adventure because he just got married in June!
Q & A with Jacob
What is your favorite part of working at WCP?
My favorite part about working at WCP is learning about how many small businesses are in Southern Oregon that I have never heard of or known about.
What is one lesson that your current position has taught you?
One lesson that I have learned is Time Management. Every day has different challenges, but knowing how to use your time helps ease the workload you may have.
Do you have any advice for new people in the industry who are just starting their careers?
Learn as much as you can. It is never a bad thing to know more than you need to. It will help with future success.
Can you share some of your favorite memories or stories from your time working at WCP?
When I caught on and learned how to use the receiving scanner guns well enough to be asked to train people and another division on how to use them.
